Fatherly Advice

Son I wish to advise you of a marital mystery,
Now that you're wed it will be part of things yet to be.
You are going to experience some times that are sad,
But they will by far be exceeded by happenings glad.
There are also days coming when you will be so perplexed,
That you will often times wonder if you have been hexed.

This is not to alarm you or cause great despair,
Or make you rend clothing or tear out your hair.
What I am going to reveal is quite natural you see,
Ask any husband, don't just take it from me.
One evening after work you will enter your house,
And tears will be flowing from the eyes of your spouse.

You will ask her what's wrong as you put out your hand,
And she'll turn away saying you would not understand.
You'll beg her and plead for an explanation,
Until you fair reach the point of total vexation.
Now is the time for extreme caution and care,
There is a pitfall at hand and you had best beware.

But you will make the same mistake that all husbands do,
We've all done it before, and so lad will you.
Genetic or learned, somehow they know it won't be long,
Until we break down and ask them, "What did I do wrong?"
I don't understand how they do it, I long since quit trying,
But they manage to get us to take, the blame for them crying.

Like I said when I started a few lines ago,
It is all very normal, but you also must know.
You should expect it monthly down through the years,
You taking the blame for her unexplained tears.
Do the best you can through it, never letting go her hand,
And someday her look will tell you she knows you understand.
