A Balsa Cross

"Take up your cross and follow me,"
But Jesus never said what kind of tree.
Be it balsa or ironwood, it's all up to thee'
How heavy the burden you carry must be.

To fashion from balsa, face problems as they
Present themselves, don't stow them away.
They are mostly light; not heavy they weigh,
But they'll grow if put off to another day.

Some problems start out heavy, that much is true,
But they'll weigh you down, if mentally you
Multiply them by any number, even by two,
For then the weight you imagine will surely come true.

To fashion from balsa, transgressions forgive,
And give your fellow man room to grow and to live.
Let animosity slip from your hand as sand through a sieve,
And the weight that you carry will be diminutive.

Make certain not to look back and measure your load
As you travel along lifes problem fraught road,
Then at the final turn you can say that you strode
Through it all with a balsa cross for a load.
