I was a little shepherd
A long, long time ago
No mom or dad to love me
Nor shelter from the snow

You see when I was born
No one to care for me
I was left out in the cold
And it froze my infant feet

My home was in a stable
My friends were cows and sheep
I was a little orphan
There was no place for me

One night as I lay sleeping
On my bed made out of hay
I heard some angels singing
They came from far away

There was a little baby
No shelter from the wind
I gathered up my crutches
To have a peek at Him

There were no gifts to give Him
A cripple small and weak
Ten thousand angels singing
Bless'd be the poor and meek

I looked up at the angels
As snow fell all around
I lay down my only treasures
To start a fire on the ground

I did not want the baby
To be an orphan just like me
I wanted Him to run and play
And walk on His own feet

Now please do not be sad
I'm as happy as can be
I traded in my crutches
For a pair of angel wings
